Aggregate Awards
Aggregate Awards for solos are awarded to the competitor with the highest cumulative mark across 3 sections. Where competitors have entered in more than 3 solo sections, their highest 3 marks will be counted. Competitors have automatic entry into the competition if eligibility criteria (3 solo sections excluding Championships) is met.

Explanations

  • Special Restricted: This means any competitor who has never won a 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize at any eisteddfod or other competition anywhere at any age before the closing date of June 1st this year. Clarification may be required.
  • Restricted: This means any competitor who has never won a 1st prize in any eisteddfod or other competition anywhere at that age in the same category before the closing date of June 1st this year.
  • Classical Period: Music written between 1750 and 1820.
  • Romantic Period: 1830-1900 approx.
  • 20th/21st Century: “Classical” music written since 1900.
  • Western Art: Any Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic or 20th/21st Century Art Music style.
  • Contemporary: Incorporates Popular Music, Jazz and Blues and Music of the Media. (May be shortened to Contemp.)
  • Popular Music: Contemporary popular music from 1910 onwards.
  • Jazz and Blues: Includes Jazz, Blues, Rock’n’roll, Stride, Ragtime, Soul, R&B, Gospel, Funk, Boogie.
  • Music of the Media: Includes any music written for Film, TV, Musical Theatre (including Disney), or Video Game.
  • Australian Composition: Music must be written or co-written by an Australian composer.
  • Hawkesbury Residents: Open only to competitors who live in the Hawkesbury area.
  • Elementary: Any piece from a primer/method book series NOT at or higher than AMEB Preliminary difficulty
  • Assisted Duet: Any competitor accompanied by teacher/parent/sibling (only the competitor will be assessed).
  • Non-Competitive: Competitors receive written report only; no marks or placings to be given.
  • Unless otherwise specified time limits are: 13/U – max. 3 mins; 14/O – max 4 mins.
  • Sonata: Unless otherwise specified time limits are: 13/U – max 4 mins; 14/O – max 5 mins.
  • Competitors will not be penalised if they perform less than the maximum time.
  • Performers are encouraged to announce the title of the piece and composer.

Two contrasting pieces. Competitors must perform in 2 other solo sections. NOTE that duets/trios and sight reading do not count as a qualifying entry.
