Music

  • All classical songs must have live accompaniment in 18/O sections.
  • Instrumental backing without vocals on USB is permitted for Classical songs in 17/U sections and contemporary style songs.
  • The competitor must hold the original copy of the music.
  • Copy of sheet music and lyrics to be handed in for the adjudicator.
  • USBs should be clearly marked with contestant’s/owner’s name. USBs are to be handed to music table by contestant when approaching the stage for their performance and collected at the completion of their performance.
  • One item per USB. No other media device will be accepted.
  • Entrants are advised to have a backup USB available at the event. USBs should be tested prior to the eisteddfod.
  • The volume of backing music may be adjusted at the discretion of the Convenor to ensure that the competitor’s voice may be clearly heard for adjudication.
  • Performers are encouraged to announce the title of the piece and composer.
  • Australian Composer sections: where more than one composer is listed, at least 50% must be Australian. Songs performed by Australians but not composed by Australians are ineligible for this section.
  • OPEN applies to any competitor at the specified age for that section.
  • RESTRICTED applies to any competitor who has never won a 1st place at any eisteddfod, festival or other competition anywhere at any age before the closing date of June 1 (clarification may be required).
  • SPECIAL RESTRICTED applies to any competitor who has never won a 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize at any eisteddfod, festival or other competition anywhere at any age before the closing date of June 1 (clarification may be required).

Timing

  • Unless otherwise specified time limits are: 16/under – max.3 minutes, 17/over – max 4
  • In the event of a section being combined the time limit of each individual age stands (i.e. 16/Under – 3mins: 17/Over – 4 )
  • Competitors will not be penalised if they perform less than the maximum

Accompanist

PLEASE NOTE: Competitors requiring accompaniment by piano or other instrument are responsible for providing their own accompanist. Competitors may bring an accompanist of their own choice. Personal accompanists will not be required to pay an admission fee for the session but must sign in at the Entry Table and provide the names and numbers of competitors and sections for whom and in which they are accompanying. Failure to do so will require the accompanist to pay the appropriate entry fee.

Microphone

Use of a microphone is strictly limited to sections specifically marked as “Amplified”. All entrants in Amplified sections must sing with the use of a microphone (which will be provided by the Eisteddfod).

Note: Use of a Microphone is not permitted in the Vocal Championship Section.

Aggregate Awards

Aggregate Awards for solos are awarded to the competitor with the highest cumulative mark across 3 sections. Where competitors have entered in more than 3 solo sections, their highest 3 marks will be counted. Competitors have automatic entry into the competition if eligibility criteria (3 solo sections excluding Championships) is met.

Competitors must perform in 2 other solo Vocal Sections to qualify (Own Composition  sections not to be included.). 

Two contrasting pieces to be performed in the Championship.

1st Prize $50 and Trophy.
